Wrens Nest Damaged

by Vicky
(Dundee Scotland)

We have a wren who has built onto a swallows nest from last year, either male or female has been sitting low inside the nest and peeping out.

Tonight we have found that the addition that the wren built was tipped out onto the ground, what do you think could have happened?

Does the female demolish the nest's she does not choose? It is in one of our recesses so that we can watch from our hallway.

It is very distressing not knowing what could have happened.

thank you.
regards
Vicky

wrens damaged nest
by: Vicky

Hi - thank you for your comments-it is such a pity as I was looking forward to seeing their babies-anyway the swallows are still there and I think the eggs have hatched-the parents are constantly back and forth (must get a photo)
they chatter away all of the time(mostly the male)same as humans.
Will let you all know what happens

Difficult To Say
by: Anonymous

Hi Vicky,

It's difficult to say what happened to your wren. The nest itself may have been the problem (to loosely built) or weather (windy) or the biggie, predators. The female is unlikely to have demolished a nest but other birds may. There are just too many variables to say for sure.
