Wren nesting in camp chair

Peeking out

We have a few camp chairs on our back porch that are not in use. The wren decided to start her nest.

I noticed little by little that she brought pieces of the nest. Now there are 5 eggs in there and I can't wait until they hatch to show my 2-year-old daughter!

Cactus Wren
by: Julie

I live in Hesperia southern Ca. I have so many cactus wren in my front yard. I have "cholla cactus" (not sure about that name). Or my husband calls them "Teddy bear cactus". lol The wren come to the same nest and rearrange it every year. The nest is so visible because all of them are at eye level. I love them mostly because they chase away the mockingbirds. I am guilty.. I can not stand mockingbirds. Julie

What a treat to be able to see. I have CACTUS Wrens.. but I NEVER see their nests! I would love to see that.
What a wonderful little lesson for your two year old!! Your little Wren looks so vulnerable in there. (The chair) Guess she thought it was as good a hiding spot as any!
Give us an update when the babies come!
