Wren in Decorative Birdhouse

by Carrie Mashon
(Dorothy, Alberta)

Pretty wrens

Pretty wrens

Last year we had a pair of wrens for the first time, stealing green garden twine I had placed in a grapevine wreath. We had a horrific wind and the nest came down.

This year they are nesting in a wooden decorative birdbox that I drilled ventilation holes and drainage holes in.

Everything was going good until we got a horrific wind and rain, it would have blown right in the hole of the birdhouse.

I tied the branch to a fence so it wouldn't whip around so bad. Now I can see that they are re-building the nest.

I wonder if the eggs were smashed or drowned?

I hope they can make a go of it and that the little chicks can stay of out cats mouths....my biggest worry. (We're very rural, 30 miles from Drumheller, Alberta)
