Two Days Before First Flight

2 babies ready for flight

I have a nest that always seems to be occupied. The nest is on my balcony where it is pretty quiet and easy for the birds to get to.

I just love watching the activity going on. I watch the "changing of the guard" in the evenings around 7:00 pm.

Keep Your Doves Around All Winter With A Heated Ground Bath

I get a little sad knowing I will wake up and see that the babies have flown the coop during
the nighttime.

I have attached a photo taken 2 days before they left their nest. It is magnified several times over to get a little closer.

Babies
by: Susan

I am also on my second set of babies. This group has been totally different from the first set. Before the parents NEVER left them alone. This group has left the babies alone for hours and hours at a time. I think now, they are trying to get them to leave the nest. Should be any minute. I will surely miss them as I did before.

Empty Nest
by: Karen

You captured the doves beautifully and have inspired me to take some photos, too. We are on our 6th nesting (2 separate places) this season. Not all of the launchings have been successful, but I think the current one is a go. Isn't the whole process wonderful to witness?

Very cute
by: Phyllis

I know the empty nest feeling too since I've experienced two sets of babies leave the nest. The last two just left while I was away for a week in Nova Scotia. I'm hoping for another family soon.
