The good Samaritan or maybe not

Bluebird Babies

Bluebird Babies

As the summer got hotter and the day temperatures were in the 100's, I just knew the five little bluebirds would not survive.

I had looked in the box on Wednesday and knew I would have to give them a proper send off on the weekend. I had not seen the parents so I just put it off.

So on Sunday evening I walked across the pasture with shovel in hand. I removed the top of their birdhouse and stuck my hand inside. Panic!! They were all alive and actually breathing as they snuggled in the cramped steaming box.

Jubilation! They were going to make it after all. The days that followed were sheer joy.

I watched the five little bluebird babies fly along the pasture fence and then gained confidence to fly to the nearest tree branch along the stream.

Just think if I had dug that hole??

That fall I wished them well as the cold weather advanced. They even did a fly over one evening as if to say good bye for the winter months ahead.

Great true story Mom. I know how much you love the Bluebirds. Hopefully some of those baby birds will be back to start a family in your birdhouses this year. :-)
