The Football Team's Robin

by Curt
(USA)

My football team is a bunch of hard-nosed guys who usually don't show their softer side. But one day before practice, we found 3 baby robins.

We figured they had fallen from the tree above during the storm 2 hours ago. Someone climbed up, but there was no nest. They had been abandoned.

We put the babies together and they cuddled during practice. We joked about taking them home. None took it seriously.

That night, after practice, I started pondering if I should take them home. It slipped my mind by morning.

The next day, when I went back through that area to play tennis, I heard chirping and remembered they were still there.

I checked on them, and the first thing I saw was bees and flies eating one of them. The other two looked bad. I found a worm and split it between the birds.

When I got home, I decided to care for it. I brought it home and fed it every 30 minutes. I did this because I was bored.

Within a week, they moved around alot. Soon, they flew away to live their lives.
