The Flock

Last summer & fall, 2008, we counted up to 14 hummers at our feeders. Of course they fly so fast it's hard to get a real accurate count but with 2 feeders out we got a pretty close count.

Only 1 stayed thru the winter. Guess maybe he wasn't up to the long journey. He was never without food though and we made sure his feeder was clean and full for the long, cold winter.

We really missed the madness they create when there are so many together. Now the middle of March, we have 3 hummers. Am hoping they'll all return or at least most of them.

We get such a kick out of watching them both thru our living room window and from the patio. We sit directly underneath one of the feeders on the patio and these little birds have gotten so use to us they don't seem to be too bothered by our company.

They are a great source of entertainment and conversation. We live in the country, on the river, and have an abundance of wildlife to watch, but the hummingbirds are the most fun.
