The Bird on my Roof

by John Lago
(Puerto Rico)

So today, I was going to do some roof work with my Dad. We were getting ready and all of that nonsense. Anyways, when we go up to the roof, my dad notices a small bundle of something fluffy on the "floor". When we got close, we noticed it was a baby bird, dying of dehydration...the poor thing could barely breathe.

Now me and my Dad both knew that we are supposed to leave birds alone, blah blah. But if we would have left it there, even if the parents were giving it food, it would've died anyways. And the nest was nowhere to be found, so I took it in.

By this time, I had already called my aunt, and she knows a thing or two about caring for birds, so she gave me a couple of tips to keep it warm and all that stuff. She also gave me some food I mix with hot water, and that's what I'm supposed to give it.

Before I got the food, with a dropper, I was giving it some water, which it drank until I got the food. Although it was pretty hard for it to open its beak to eat, I got it open and it ate quite a lot.

So, like it sleeping now...and I just really hope that it can survive, cause now its moving more, opening its eyes, noticeably breathing, and well, I've grown attached to the little bugger.

I'll let time and fate decide what to do with the birdie..but I'm not gonna stop trying until that decision comes
