Robins Taking Turns On Eggs

Robin Feeding On The Ground

I have a robin nesting in my hanging planter right outside my patio door. At this time there are three eggs in the nest.

Early evening I was sitting on my patio when I noticed a robin sitting on the railing for quite awhile near the nest.

I looked in the planter and there was a robin in the nest. A few seconds later the robin in the nest flew away, and after a short time, the robin that had been sitting on the railing flew into the nest.

I assume that they take turns sitting on the eggs like doves do.

Changing of the guard

I have a Robin's nest, the family now complete with three babies. Prior to them being born, one Robin would sit on the nest & then another flew in.

Immediately, the first Robin took off as soon as the other Robin landed. I came to call this the changing the guard.

I'm just now starting to study about backyard birds. I use my binoculars to get a better view.
The 3 babies always seem hungry & are eager to eat when their food is brought to them.

Tonight, 2 appeared to be sleeping, though they were standing up in the nests. The third baby sat with mouth open, I'm guessing, he/she was hoping for more food.

I do not hear them & get the impression they can not see yet. I'll hopefully find out more on this as I continue my beginning of bird watching and finding out more about them.

It's official-I truly am fascinated and have become an avid bird watcher. Hence, my reason to learn all I can about my backyard birds.
