Nestlings Survive Alone?

by Jenny
(Dublin, CA)

So about a couple weeeks ago, a little bird decided to lay her eggs in one of my hanging baskets.

The bird that was nesting this morning seems to had gotten mad at me (i assume it was the male) ...he irresponsibly left the poor little nestlings alone.

I was just watering my plants, and wasn't even watering the one where he was sitting... it seems that I got close enough to making feel that I was a threat, and so he flew away.

What a chicken! I wonder if the female would do something about this... like we humans would do. you know...

Anyway, do you have any advise on what should I do if the parents don't come back? I hope the female come in this afternoon for her night shift because I don't know if the poor little birdies will survive for very long.

Not a very good picture of the nestlings attached

young adults are alone for first time
by: robbin WARD

I have been noticing the male and female have
been leaving their young more often lately. They
usually will leave nest but will not be far away.
Keeping a eye on them and then going back to nest. The kids are flapping wings more and moving
over to other fake palm tree branch! However tonight the adults are not back with young, is
this not a good sign? I'm a little concerned, I
hope they did not abandoned the nest.
