My Bedroom Window Box

Rocklin California I have had two window boxes for 15 years and while I have been feeding birds in my backyard for a long time never expected THIS.

I had noticed doves fluttering around but that is not uncommon in the spring. However, few days ago I walked out the back door and just as I passed my window box one took off like an explosion and i glanced to the side and saw a little white egg sitting in the succulents.

Since then I have kept things quiet with no light on after dark and the window shade drawn so even my computer does not bother the nesting.

It is a perfect spot under the eave and out of the rain that fell for a few days after she started. Also I have kept cats out since I started feeding birds.

They are a family now. Nothing is left in that window box as of this morning but an egg shell.

Momma and baby have flown the coop as it were.

AND if anyone is interested, the dove drinks several times a day so I kept a large shallow water dish full and in addition to seed I made a mixture that she rather liked of dried bread, diced celery and buttered popcorn.

with food and water available the nesting went fast and easy....I expect to see them again.
