More Babies Yippee

by Carol Conner
(Winston-Salem, NC)

Two years ago a little married couple of wrens built a nest in my hanging planter among the impatiens.

Each day I would look into the nest and to my delight, we finally had 4 little specked eggs.

I would watch mom and dad both work frantically feeding the little ones. Mom got where she trusted me and did not seem bothered by me looking at and touching the little ones.

One night, about 2 AM, as I was going back in the house after taking my dogs out, I thought I saw a reptile head in the nest.

I got the flash light, and much to my horror, a black snake had gotten in the nest and ate all my little beloved babies.

I got my husband, he killed that snake. I was broken hearted, and cried for two weeks.

Now, this year, we have nest in the azalas just outside the sunroom with 5 egss, two have hatched. I am so thrilled !!!

I just pray no Satin Snakes come around again. They are so precious and I love watching mom and dad take care of the little ones.

Wrens Love My Geraniums
by: PA Bird lover

This is my second year of wrens in my hanging pots. They are on my deck, I live on 3rd floor of an apartment. They came earlier this summer, but waited till end of July to build the nest. It is so much fun watching them build this intricate nest.

I do get scolded if I try to use my deck, but I am extremely blessed to have them, so I go to the park a lot.

This spring I had robins in my petunias!

More Babies Yippee!

What a sad and poignant story, Nature at work! Happy you may get to see more babies raised. How neat for you to be able to get so close to your babies and the Mother allowed it. I can understand you crying for a week. Betty
