Molly-We Tried

My kids are always bringing home a stray. So when I came home the other day I was not surprised to hear my daughter say "Wait till you see what we found today." To my surprise there sat a tiny baby bird which still had its eyes closed.

I thought to myself how do I, the mother who hardly says no to the question... "can we keep it" of which I have nearly said yes to for many years.

For a few days the kids and I cared for and loved the little baby bird, we gave her the name Molly. We watched her grow, open her eyes, hold her head up and even better, heard her first chirps.

A part of me knew that we could not care for this bird properly so on the 4th day I looked up information about baby birds that fall out of the nest. I learned that it would be best to place the bird in thick shrubs and let nature play out.

We are animal and nature lovers in our home and this has been a difficult decision to make, putting little Molly out on her own, but deep inside I know this was the right thing to do. I just have to tell the kids that I took her to a bird rescue in out town.

This way in the event that Molly passes they will not think that it was something that they did or did not do that caused her outcome.

How I wish I knew what to do to save little Molly and the hearts of my kids.
