What kinds of bird is this?

What kinds of bird is this?

Rather than relaying a story, I am just trying to discover what type of bird this is. This is a photo of a bird perched on the narrow 3/4" rim that runs along the inside of my front porch, in one corner.

We did not witness the bird flying in there, but happened to notice it when walking out the front door at night. No idea how long it had been perched there.

We never touched it, no knowing what surprise we might be in for had we done so.

At first we thought it was a bat until I took the picture and viewed it on the monitor to see it had feathers, and not fur.

After taking another photo from a position high on the left side, the next morning (around 6:15 am) I could tell that its head was tucked into its left side - at least that is how it appeared.

What is it?

I showed that pic to my husb and all both of us could say is WOW. It looks like the back end of a hawk or an owl. Is it still around? I would ask your neighbors if they have seen anything like that. Let us know what you find out.
