Dozens of Bluebirds

by Lori

Small Flock of Bluebirds

Small Flock of Bluebirds

I recently built a house on 6 acres in Warren County NJ. I am surrounded by hundreds of acres of preserved farmlands.

Our yard is filled with bluebirds year round.

I was told that bluebirds migrate and they don't flock. Well, I need to catch some good pictures because I have spotted dozens of them at once almost every day whether the day is snowy or sunny.

They also love to flock to our house and perch on the roof. I have never seen a bluebird before moving here. Now I see dozens every day.

Has any one ever experience a flock of winter bluebirds before?

Have you set up houses for them?
by: Anonymous

If you haven't, you need to set up houses, as it sounds like you are in the perfect area to help out the bluebirds. Their numbers have lessened over the years due to not enough available nests.
They are fun to watch and usually lay 5 eggs each time. I had 5 separate nestings in the same house last year. The last fledgling flew on Labor Day.

They come to our windows!
by: Laurie and Mary (Hendersonville, NC)

Here it is mid-February, and we put up our birdhouse, facing east, as we were advised. There is already one across the street!

Well, so far we have seen several of them checking out their new house, but we don't think they have set up tenancy yet. However, they have started coming to our own windows, perching on the windowsills, fluttering and pecking and chirping. We don't know what they want! We worry that they could bruise their little beaks.

Will advise later as to whether they actually move into their own accommodations.
