Doves on My Fire Escape

by Amy
(Brooklyn)

Hello,

I live in Greenpoint, Brooklyn and there are a lovely pair of doves nesting on my fire escape. I had seen them hopping about and heard them cooing, but over the last week have taken over a flower pot and made a nest inside.

I know now that they are not one bird, but two. Very interesting because one of them is always there, day and night.

It's a bit strange because our kitchen table sits in the windows, literally about 3 feet away from the nest. We have breakfast there and talk loudly, read the paper, bang pots and pans around the kitchen and the birds seem totally unfazed. It's like they're sitting at the table with us.

I must try not to worry too much about them. I feel much better after reading everyone's stories, I wasn't sure what was going on at first. I welcome any advice you may have too!

Happy Spring!
