Doves On My Balcony Part 2

by Mihoko Tokoro

2 more days to go!

2 more days to go!

Successful!!
A few days after I wrote the original column, two eggs hatched. The chicks were so quiet and the loving and studious parents were there 24 hours a day to nurture the chicks.

I was so amazed how fast they grew. They are almost like inflatable ducks!! The size is doubled each day.

On exactly 14th day, they all few out to the wide blue skies. I was so happy for them, but so sad because I will never see these pretty faces again. All I have now is the empty nest...

This picture was taken 2 days before they flew!

Come back soon!!

Doves On My Balcony Part 3

A week after I wrote "Doves On My Balcony Part 2" success story, there were a pair of doves checking this empty nest. Not sure if they are the same couple or their friends..lol.

Today, a dove start sitting on the nest and looks like she is ready to start a family. Can't tell if she had already laid the eggs, but let's cross our fingers for a happy ending.

I can't wait to see more babies... will keep you posted.

dove babies during the summer !
by: sarah

We have mourning doves again! but its summer time and about 90 - 100 degress each day. I thought they only mated in the spring - there were two families in the same nest during the spring and then it was vacant for quite a while until two weeks ago and a pair of doves returned.

We wondered if it was the old couple from springtime? But now there are babies I'm sure as the dove is sitting in different direction and looks to be feeding the babies which are secured way on the back of the balcony roof top eave.

We check them every morning through the blinds on our balcony door and they check us. We have a large bowl of water on the floor of our covered balcony which they seem to be drinking from because they have left behind droppings.

We are so honored to have these birdies trust us while they raise their babies! It will be sad to see the babies fly away.

True
by: Elaine

I know your feeling. As I just told my daughter who is 39, I am a true "empty nester" as of this past Saturday. The same dove has had 2 broods in the same nest and the second brood of 2 just flew away Saturday. I have watched with amazement at how the mother and father care for them until they leave the nest. God's creation is so amazing and beautiful

Doves on your balcony

What a wonderful story indeed. And a HUGE success! So sentimental to watch something like that!
Great that you were able to see the fledglings leave their nest. The picture is nice.
No doubt, your dove pair will once again use that spot, when they are ready.. and you'll be able to watch it all over again.
It is sort of sad.. when they leave.. and the ordeal is over!
Thank you for posting a "Happy" ending! There are so many SAD stories that some write in! Happy endings are a GOOD thing!
Keep watching that nest!
