Ms. Dove on Main St.
We have a tree right in front of my shops front door, only the width of a sidewalk away from it and the doves nested and had two babies at the end of April. Today is May 16, 2009 and either the same doves are back again or another pair has come back and nesting again.
I watched from the beginning, when a robin was building the nest and then the doves took it from her. That was quite a day.
One day the robin sat on the nest and the 2 doves tried all day to get her off but she wouldn't leave. The next day when I got to work the dove was on the nest and stayed there until she hatched 2 babies.
I made pictures of the progression from her setting on the nest and then every other day I made pictures until the babies flew away for good.
This morning, May 16th, just one week from the time the babies left the next, when I got to work I noticed as I was unlocking the front door a dove setting on the nest.
I had to explore and there is a pair, just like the last time. I hope they are nesting again. Hopefully, another brood.
Not being all that familiar with the nesting habits of dove I had to get on the computer to find out their nesting habits and found this website and found it so helpful and very informative.
The address of the nesting doves are The Heirloom Shop, 404 Main Street, Franklin, TN. We are a historic civil war town just 14 miles south of Nashville, Tn. If you are in Franklin you can stop by and maybe take a peek at Mr. & Ms. Dove and their family.
I hope you find this article as interesting as it was in my adventure of watching them.
