Doves Nesting In Garage

by By: Sue
(Fremont, California)

We had noticed some activity of doves flying in and out of our garage. We had closed the garage door and then when we reopend it our dove became very frightened and flew away.

About a week later, again our garage door was open, we saw the doves go in there again.

We decided to leave the door open and a few days later located their nest and one of the doves nesting.

It has been quite a while now and am getting concerned that eggs have not hatched. They seem to tolerate us going in an out of the garage (we do not park our car in the garage but do our laundry and they just keep on nesting).

We do notice the difference between the male and female and once saw them changing.

We find this very exciting and hope that their eggs hatch soon.

Update on Doves Nesting In Garage
by: Sue

The eggs have hatched the baby doves are adorable sitting next to each other and staring out into the Garage. There are two babies and much more activity with the parents flying in and out to feed them and sit with them.

Garage Doves
by: Mimi Lola

We had a pair build a nest on top of our garage door opener inside our garage. We had to leave the door partially open so they could come and go. It was interesting to watch them "change shifts". Many nights they were both in the garage---one on the nest and one "roosting" on a high shelf.(messy) They had their two babies who grew to be almost as large as the parents before they left the nest. The parents left but the babies stayed in our garage for another week. They were there at least four weeks after they were born. They would fly out for the day and come back at night. We thought we had two new pets! We didn't get around to removing the nest, so; now, 6 weeks later, the parents have come back and are nest sitting again. They are not afraid of us. We talk to them and they look at us just like pet birds would. They are fun to watch.

What an exciting experience to be able to watch birds nest and hatch their eggs at such a close distance! Please keep us updated as soon as the eggs hatch!
