Doves Nested Then Abandoned

We have a hanging planter on our front porch and noticed a dove sitting on her eggs when my husband went to sit on our front porch.

The dove and her mate nested for about a week and then disappeared with no sign of the eggs or shells.

The same thing happened about three days later.

The dove reappeared on the planter and stayed for over a week and disappeared again with no sign of the eggs or chicks.

The area the planter is in is very protected and we do not think a cat could get to the nest. We are wondering if humans (certain cultures) take the eggs for a delicacy?

Our porch is easily seen and accessable from the street. Any comments or information is welcome.

Very likely Jays
by: Stacey

As it happened to us this morning, a Blue Jay may have taken the eggs from the nest. This is a very common occurance if Jays (or other predator birds)are in your area. Sadly my daughter watched as the Dove did it's best to fight off the predator.
