Doves in my Basil

by Jen
(Englewood, OH USA)

A few days ago I was watering my plants and have a double hanging basket with basil on top and begonias on bottom.

I thought I saw a funny looking piece of basil and reached up to pull it. Turns out it is a dove nesting there.

It did not fly away rather it fluttered its wings and settled back in.

I am amazed she/he has not abandoned the nest since the basket is by our front door and my 2 kids and all the neighborhood friends are constantly in and out.

I think when the chicks leave home I'll clean out the top and leave it empty for my new "neighbors"

empty basil
by: Marie

I would plant something in the basket, maybe not basil but a vine or something I have a nest in my pot last year the vine died and we left it empty for them this year they wouldn't use it they used the other one that still had a vine in it. The vine is doing better since they have been in it.
