Dove Nest In Gutter

by Joanne
(Illinois)

We live in central Illinois and the mourning dove is very common here. We have a mother dove sitting on her nest that was constructed in the house rain gutter.

She has been sitting there for over 3 weeks if not longer with no obvious activity as we have had quite a bit of rain.

I do hope she feeds herself and am curious as to how long she will stay there.

We have not attempted to look inside the nest but can't imagine that there is any possible viability.

I did just witness another dove bird at the site and he/she had some twigs. So that is nice to know they are sharing this job. Thank you!

Dove Nest In Gutter

I am just wondering if you thought it was just the female in the nest all the time.
They take shifts.
But 3 weeks sitting there... I am no pro but maybe they might be on their second clutch.
Maybe someone who knows the answer... will comment. Julie
