Disappearing Eggs...

by CC
(Morris County, NJ)

We have a wren who was sitting on 3 eggs as of last night. They have been in the nest for 10 days or there about.

Mommy has been diligent but this morning ALL the eggs are gone. We would not have had any squirrels near there because the nest is right up against the house in an azalea bush.

Could a chipmunk have gotten to them or is it possible that the mom transferred the eggs to a better nest that she has made due to the fact that the original nest is so close to an active doorway?

The nest also appears to be on the small side so I am wondering if she transferred them. The nest is undisturbed and there are no signs of shells anywhere.

Any one has any thoughts on this? Thanks.

Maybe a raccoon or a squirrel.
