Cardinals in my Sattelite dish

by Gene
(Lower Alabama)

I have five new cardinals nested in my dish. Videos are taken in 48 minutes clips due to memory stick capacity.

They are five days old today 5/7/09

Mama was nesting and PAPA has been helping with feeding. The 48 minute video clip yesterday afternoon saw no Mama, but Papa did feed twice during that period and Mama has not showed up this morning.I think harm has come to her.

I could easily feed the young ones though my window if Papa doesn't come back, but read here that's not a good thing to do.

Any suggestions ?

EMPTY NEST
by: Anonymous

Thanks to all who commented.
All five chicks have grown and "FLEW THE COOP"
Papa stayed on the job til the end and my feeding efforts went to naught. No way would the chicks respond except to cringe when I approached.
I'm looking forward to next year.

Baby Cardinals
by: Anonymous

I too have 3 baby cardinals right outside my dining room window. Been watching Mom and Dad tend to them but haven't seen anything since early 5/19/09....I'm very concerned about them (I believe they are about 4-5 days old) and have contacted a wildlife rehab person as I don't want to move them prematurely. I read that the Mom takes off to build a new nest for a new brood and the Dad feeds them. Any suggestions would be appreciated....

My Chicks
by: Anonymous

I recorded three 48 minute video clips today and PAPA came with food two or three times in each clip and the chicks are very active then and sometimes get active on their own. I'm leaving it up to PAPA now. Since I can reach them easily from my window, I wonder if it would do any harm, if later, I would attempt to bond with them by gently stroking their back and provide a perch with my finger when they were able?

Baby Bird Feeding
by: hayley

Hey Gene.....See how dad picks up the feeding pace. Last year I rescued 4 Mockingbird babies on a 3 day weekend, No rehab was opened.

I went to work feeding these tweets every 45 minutes from 7AM to 7PM.

Tiring work, It was an incredible bond that happend over a 3 day period. I have so much respect Parents. It's a lot of work.

Before you take over where mom left off do research and find a rehab for info on the "How To's".

Best of luck to you from one animal lover to another!
