Baby House Wren

by Stev
(Farmerville, Louisiana, USA)

I came home from work to find my wife and children had "rescued" a fledgling house wren.

They had caged it and were trying to feed it some "baby bird food" they'd made from an internet recipe.

To make matters worse my wife had found the nest and ripped it up to put in the cage. I showed them this site and they took it back to the tree it was found in and the parents found it almost immediately.

We sat and watched as the baby, it's siblings and parents all made their way across the yard to the woods.

Poor Thing
by: Micky

My sister and I found a baby wren outside our grandparents' house. we kept it because it had a hurt wing. We tried to feed it a pillbug, which it ate half of. We kept it over night to see if it could be saved. It had something wrong internally along w/ its wing and died the next morning. At least it died in its sleep. RIP

5 babies
by: Anonymous

I've read so many things that have said to leave the babies alone and the parents will take care of them. We only saw the Mama bird once in 5 days and we were worried. The babies started crawling out of the nest too. Reading this story makes me feel I did the right thing, only today, we found that all 5 babies were dead. This was so upsetting as I wish now that I did intervene. What should I have done?
