Adjoining Robin Nests

by Denise Bartram

Has anyone ever seen this before?

We have adjoining Robin nests in the slats of our fence. It is pretty visible, though the clematis vines are growing rapidly. Even though it's in a higher traffic area, we have avoided the area as much as possible.

I have only seen 2 Robins at once there. One robin was nesting and the other robin was standing by the other nest.

Each nest has 2 eggs. However, there almost always is a female on one or the other nests. They have been nesting close to 3 weeks.

I don't think they are viable eggs, but how long will she nest before she figures it out and leaves?

Curious minds want to know.
